Winter Bird Watch in Nursery
18th Feb 2026
This month we’ve been learning all about how birds survive during the winter. The children enjoyed making their own bird feeders to help our local birds and designed their very own binoculars for exploring.
Yesterday’s dry weather gave us the perfect chance to use our binoculars outside for some bird watching around the school grounds. The children loved spotting, listening and looking carefully for different birds.
This learning supported lots of early skills, including:- Understanding the World – learning about nature, winter changes and caring for living things
- Language Development – using new words like feathers, nests, winter, camouflage
- Creative Development – designing and making our binoculars
- Exploration & Thinking Skills – observing, noticing and talking about what we see
- Personal & Social Skills – working together, sharing equipment and taking turns
A lovely mix of creativity, nature exploration and outdoor learning!
