Egg-citing Investigations in Nursery!
12th Mar 2026
This week, Nursery have been very busy exploring real eggs as part of our Spring learning! We talked about where eggs come from, the different kinds of animals that lay eggs, how hens care for them, and what happens to the eggs once they are laid.
The children had lots of fun cracking open the eggs and examining all the different parts inside. We used fantastic descriptive language to talk about how they felt — “slippery,” “slimy,” “yucky,” “soft,” “smooth,” and even “crunchy.” Such brilliant vocabulary!
This hands?on activity supported lots of early learning, including:
- Knowledge & Understanding of Living Things
- Exploring and Describing Different Properties
- Language Development
- Exploring Cause and Effect
- Asking Questions & Making Predictions
- Sensory Play and Discovery
A fantastic mix of learning, investigating and messy fun — all through play!
